I’m Dr. Tami West, here every week to bring you tips on living a life that brings you mental and emotional wellbeing.
This week starts week 1 of a 10-week book study of my book, The Stress Club. Each week we'll do basically one chapter.
Questions to Think About:
1. What steps/books/classes have you taken before now to manage your stress? How have they helped you?
2. What do you hope to accomplish by reading this book?
We need a revolution!
o Who am I addressing? p. xiii
o Stress considered normal but killing us, part of life but we've got to manage, debilitating yet helpful. What??
o 3 missing pieces during our time: The word stress, concept of women’s language, our identities as women
Ch. 1: Frogs in Pots
o Virginia seminar and the concept of “must be nice!”
o Statistics show we’re stressed and getting worse! Can’t imagine what next year’s will be like with Covid19.
o Books like The Feminine Mystique, When Work Doesn’t Work Anymore, The Feminine Mistake
o P. 9 - What the Club is all about – Frogs in Pots!
o P. 11 - Why my study is so difficult to wrap your mind around
o P.14 – The women in my study
Ch. 2: The Fungus on the Floor
o How had I reached this point?! p.
o Were complicated, like messes of necklaces – p. 20 (lumping anxiety and stress together)
o Dr. Ed Deiner -p. 22 Happiness Formula
o My genetics - ~ 50% mom & dad
o Circumstances of life - ~8-15% Divorce, bullying, neighborhood trash, filth, poverty, health department, septic tank, pets
o Choices - ~42% - I’m calling it half!
And sadly, as always, that’s our time for today. I am praying every day for our country, our leaders, everyone’s roles, and people affected. I hope you’ll join me in doing that AND in staying mentally and emotionally healthy.
