Show Notes CYH Episode 41: Three Reasons I’m Not Embarrassed by the Mental Hospital

Welcome friends to Consider Yourself Hugged episode 41. Today’s Hug: Three Reasons I’m Not Embarrassed by the Mental Hospital (Click here to listen).

I’m Dr. Tami West, here every week to bring you tips on living a life that brings you mental and emotional wellbeing.

Last week I interviewed my pastor about addiction. At one point I remembered something I said to him AFTER his rehab – I said, "Oh you been drinking?" I was absolutely MORTIFIED, but he didn’t even remember it.

What he said next is really what prompted me to talk about this today. He said, "Yep it’s just part of my DNA!" (Click here to listen to the episode). It really is a powerful testimony.

So I got to thinking my years telling the story of being in the mental hospital. I began thinking, How do I respond to inappropriate comments? Then I remembered one from a few years ago (Click here to listen).

THAT story led me to think, "Well I’m not embarrassed – why?" It really was one of the worst days of my life! I came up with 3 reasons, so here they are:

1. Embarrassment about that means embarrassment about me. (Click here to listen to referenced episode on self-esteem.)

2. Embarrassment breeds more embarrassment.

3. Embarrassment hinders my ability to help.

And that’s our time for today. I hope you learned something today about giving up embarrassment in your life! Please pass the show link along to a friend or two and subscribe, download, and review wherever you are listening. And look around here at tamiwest.com to get info if you’d like me to speak at your next event. Finally, remembering our mental & emotional wellbeing goal, I hope that you will renew your thoughts daily, adopt empowering language that prevents verbal harm to yourself and others, and make positive mental and emotional choices on a daily basis.

And until next time, Consider Yourself Hugged 😘🤗
